Painted Early 19th Century Hanging Watch Cabinet

$975.00 USD

An early wooden hanging watch cabinet with hinged front panel/door and glass window. The snipe hinged door is scroll-cut with scalloping on the top and cut-out on the bottom to form feet and a drop pendant.  The window is surrounded by a half-round, dark stained molding.  The cabinet measures 13 1/2" tall, 7 7/8" wide and 4 1/4" deep.  It likely dates to the early 1800's.

It has been painted a baby blue, inside and out, with the outside finished with shellac that has oxidized to green.  A small section on the bottom has been tested with alcohol to show the original blue surface.

The construction is nailed with snipe hinges, wire latch, wire watch hanger and leather strap for hanging on the wall.

There is some paint loss at the nail heads and the glass looks to be replaced.  We have left any restoration for the next owners.

We were delighted to find a piece of this age and delightful folk design with its original surface.

An estimated $25 is included in the price to cover packing, shipping and insurance.
