French Majolica Pheasant Plate

This item has been sold.

This colorful French Majolica plate comes from an area in the southeastern suburbs or Paris, France named Choisy-le-Roi.  The Choisy-le-Roi Faience Factory produced majolica from 1860 until 1910.  This pattern was produced in the early 1900's.  It has one of the traditional marks on the back (please see photo)- the H. Boulanger printed was a director at the pottery.

The plate measures 8 3/4" round.  It is in excellent condition.  The pheasant is pictured in vibrant colors- blue, garnet and honey yellow.  The grass shows details of a log and patches of tall grasses.  In the background are shadows of trees and shrubs in a soft gray/blue.

No wonder these plates are a favorite of collectors.

An estimated $20 is included in the price to cover packing, shipping and insurance.
